Meet the Organizers

We’re Jethro & Joanita Buter, and we live in the beautiful village of Zalk with our three daughters—the place where Heading East begins and ends.

Cycling has always been a big part of our lives. Jethro is a passionate ultra cyclist who has taken on numerous races and long-distance adventures, while Joanita is usually found at the finish line, cheering him on. Together, we decided to create the kind of event we’d love to ride ourselves: a challenging, welcoming, and unforgettable bikepacking adventure.

At Heading East, Joanita takes care of the organisation and administration, while Jethro focuses on the route, rider experience, and everything that happens out on the road.
